WHAT'S NEW

June 21, 2010, Nuremberg, Germany and New York, USA - The Energy Sector, Power Distribution Division of Siemens Aktiengesellschaft (Siemens) together with SCS Info Tech, LLC (SCS), a New York based company today announced the acquisition by Siemens of QuickStab® -- a fast and field-proven software that has been successfully used by utilities in Europe, Asia, Latin America and the United States to perform real-time and offline stability assessment and monitoring.

"Operating the power system without knowing its stability limit is risky, especially because this limit is continuously shifting as system conditions change", said Mr. Gerd Pollhammer, General Manager, Energy Automation Solutions. "A grid operator's ability to quickly and accurately estimate the distance from any operating point to a state where voltages may collapse and units may lose synchronism is the first step towards preventing blackouts -- and that's exactly what Siemens can now offer by providing the innovative, user-friendly, yet technologically advanced QuickStab seamlessly integrated with Spectrum PowerTM and as an offline application as well". January 12, 2010, San Jose, Costa Rica -- The System Operator in Costa Rica, also known as Centro Nacional de Control de Energía (CENCE), an operational unit of Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE), together with Energy Consulting International (ECI) Inc. today announced the successful implementation of ECI’s QuickStab® Advanced (QuickStab). The program will be used to monitor the power system’s security margin and identify operating conditions with unacceptable stability reserves. “ICE’s power grid plays a role of paramount importance in the operation of the Central American interconnected electric system”, said Mr. Salvador López Alfaro, General Director of CENCE. “In its capacity of System and Market Operator, CENCE is taking all the necessary steps to ensure that timely decisions aimed at maintaining and enhancing the operating reliability are adequately implemented” (read more...).

November 5, 2009, Bucharest, Romania -- Energy Consulting International, Inc. (ECI) together with the National Power Control Operational Unit (DEN) of the Romanian National Power Grid Company S.A. (TRANSELECTRICA) announced the successful upgrade of the currently existing real-time and offline QuickStab® to the new version 3.82.34 of QuickStab® Advanced. At DEN, QuickStab® has been used in real-time dispatching since 2004, when it was seamlessly integrated by AREVA T&D with the SCADA/EMS. TRANSELECTRICA's operational experience with QuickStab was documented in IEEE papers and CIGRE reports, and in books published by Springer Verlag and John Wiley & Sons. "The era of real-time stability monitoring began in Romania with the real-time implementation of QuickStab at DEN", said ECI's CEO Savu C. Savulescu. "The new and innovative features available now in QuickStab Advanced, such as MaxLoad analysis and look-ahead dynamic contingency evaluation will provide DEN additional knowledge towards minimizing risk and maximizing the use of the transmission network".
